RARITAN TWP. - A two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to a River Road business on Saturday night.
The fire, reported at approximately 8:20 p.m., broke out in the rear of the William Stothoff Co., Inc., wells and pumps. It was a building that was located to the rear of the property.
River Road was closed to all traffic in the area of the fire, as was the east end of Minneakoning Road.
William Stothoff, in business for over 125 years, installs residential irrigation, geothermal wells, pumping systems, and provides monitoring services.
At least nine fire departments, including Raritan Township Fire Company, Flemington, Lebanon Borough, Quakertown, High Bridge, Whitehouse, Three Bridges, Readington and Milford responded. Several other fire departments were called in to standby in the empty firehouses of those fighting the fire.
Also responding to the fire were township police, the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad, Clinton Rescue Squad Rehabilitation Unit, Hunterdon County Fire and EMS coordinators and township Office of Emergency Management.
Firefighters from Clinton Township, asked to be on standby, also responded to a fire alarm at the nearby Hampton Inn located off Royal Road. The call came in at approximately 10:20 p.m. There was no information on that call available as of Sunday morning.
