Way to go to 5 of our members today.  Instructor Evan Holtz, EMT/FF Joey Shreve, EMT Brittany Waser, Paramedic Michael Jobmann and EMT/FF Connor Beaton, who all completed today's Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5k Fundraiser in NYC.  The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001.

They also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.  

We congratulate our members who completed this event today

CFARS participated on Saturday September 20, 2014 in the 100th anniversary celebration of the Morris Township Hillside Hose Co. 1. Our Heavy Rescue was on display with demonstrations of our equipment and discussion surrounding our services. Organizers anticipated up to 3000 attendees with games, food, prizes, apparatus old and new as well as many interested next generation EMS/Rescue/Fire candidates.

Several accidents were reported on Route 31 this morning, causing delays into Warren County.

Police and paramedics responded to an early morning crash on Route 31 at Rocky Run Road in Lebanon Township.

A motorcycle traveling northbound on Route 31 at Rocky Run Road in Lebanon Township crashed into a white sedan at 6:30a.m. The operator of the motorcycle was transported from the scene by the Clinton Rescue Squad and paramedics to the ball field off School Road in Glen Gardner to meet up with State Police NorthStar MediVac Helicopter. He was transported by MediVac to University Hospital in Newark.

The driver of the car was checked out by the rescue squad at the scene.

Route 31 was closed in both directions during the incident and investigation and traffic was backed up on the southbound lane into Warren County.

Lebanon Township police are investigating the crash.

An accident was also reported on the northbound side of Route 31 in High Bridge this morning, with a second incident reported on the southbound side of Route 31 at the Warren County line.

In August 2014, hospital officials in Kansas City, MO and Chicago, IL notified CDC of an increase in severe respiratory illness among children seen in the emergency rooms and admitted to the hospitals. 

• Specimens initially tested positive for rhinovirus and enterovirus. CDC did further testing and identified enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) in specimens from patients in both hospitals in Kansas City and Chicago. 
• CDC is working closely with MO, IL and other state health departments as they continue to investigate suspected clusters of respiratory illness in other facilities. 
• Hospital admissions for severe respiratory illness among children in the Kansas City and Chicago hospitals are higher than expected for this time of year. Several states are also investigating similar clusters of severe respiratory illness, possibly due to EV-D68. 
• The situation is evolving quickly. CDC is gathering information to better understand: 

                                EV-D68 and the illness caused by this virus, 
                                how widespread EV-D68 infections may be and the populations affected, and 
                                whether other states are experiencing severe respiratory illness, possibly due to EV-D68. 

• CDC is communicating often with state health departments that are investigating suspected clusters of respiratory illness, and we have received specimens for laboratory testing. 
• CDC understands that Americans may be concerned about this situation. Severe respiratory illness is always a concern to us, especially when infants and young children are affected. We will share information as soon as we have it. We’ll also post information on our website (www.cdc.gov/non-polio-enterovirus). 
• Healthcare providers should consider EV-D68 as a possible cause of severe respiratory illness, particularly in young children, and should report unusual increases in the numbers of patients with severe respiratory illness to local and state health departments. 
• The general public can help protect themselves from respiratory illnesses by washing hands avoiding close contact with sick people, and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.

CLINTON — A new video describes what it's like to be a member of the Clinton First Aid & Rescue Squad.

"It was started as a recruitment tool, to put out to the public a little bit about what we do, who we are, and how we work," said Bucky Buchanan, the squad's deputy chief of EMS. "We are always looking for volunteers, and this is just another way that we thought it would help spread our word."

The video shows squad members in action as they describe their responsibilities and motivations for joining the squad. They talk about the "family" feel of the organization, team-building activities, and the skills and confidence they've gained as members.

Viewers see the squad's marine unit drilling on Round Valley Reservoir; classes in rescue techniques, and community interaction. Scenes are mixed with audio of rescue call dispatches and training exercises. The video was produced by Box 18 Productions.
