On Friday and Saturday, 6 members of the CFARS Water Rescue team completed the Ice Rescue Awareness/Operations Class with the Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center (HCESTC). This class focuses on varying techniques of safety, survival, and rescue skills in an Ice Rescue scenario. While part of the class is in the classroom, much of it is on the ice in practical scenarios. All 6 members successfully completed the class, allowing them to respond and act during an actual emergency. Great Job to all! 10 members from the CFARS Water Rescue Team assembled for an indoor training session. Skills covered included equipment review, identifying hazards, victim approach, rescue techniques, hand and whistle signals, pattern searches, and tethered rescue. We would like to send a special shout out and thank you to the Hunterdon Health and Wellness Center in Clinton for the use of their indoor pool for this drill, as well as more to come during our winter training sessions!

Actually, it wasn’t really a rescue, but they utilized similar techniques. Rescue Squad members help out with the Clinton Rubber Ducky Race every year. On Sunday, the 28th Annual Clinton Sunrise Rotary Rubber Ducky Race was held on the South Branch of the Raritan River in downtown Clinton. People could sponsor a duck in the race for $10 and a chance to win one of several prizes Hundreds of yellow rubber ducks were released by squad members, the duck then went over the falls and raced in the river to the finish line with a large crowd cheering them on. Proceeds from this annual event supports the American Cancer Society and the Cancer Support Community of Central NJ. Prizes ranged from a Walt Disney World Trip, to a Travel Voucher from Clark Travel, and to several gift certificates. After the race was over, the rescue squad retrieved the race’s mascot, who was floating in the middle of the river overseeing the race activities. The last steps for this boat were the new graphics, which were put on late last week. With the new graphics came a special one commemorating the hard work and efforts of our Water Rescue Leader, Chip Milcarek. Chip has been instrumental in the rebuild of this boat, which ultimately would not have happened without him. CFARS is very grateful to have Chip as part of our team with his wealth of knowledge and tireless efforts. Thank you Chip, for your dedication to making "Chip's Ship" the best it's ever been.
![]() The 26th Annual Clinton Sunrise Rotary Rubber Ducky Race was held on Sunday, 7/12 at 2pm in downtown Clinton on the South Branch of the Raritan River. Proceeds from this fun family event support the American Cancer Society and the Cancer Support Community – Central NJ. The Squad once again supplied support of the "Launching" of the Ducks in the race, as well as provided safety crews around the river during the event. A great day and good time by all in attendance. Round Valley Reservoir kept our water rescue team busy today. Earlier in the day a report of a boater in distress, taking on water found two canoeists whose canoe was partially submerged and they were treading water for about an hour. Both were rescued and brought to shore, being treated by our BLS crew.
The second call was for an inflatable boat in distress by the campers launch. After an hour long search of the water, this call was deemed unfounded and crews became available. We would like to remind all boaters to have and/or wear appropriate life vests or have approved flotation devices whenever you are out on the water.
This afternoon CFARS' Water team was dispatched at the request of the NJ State Park Police to assist a stranded boater on Round Valley. Marine455-2 responded and assisted the 2 parties back to the ramp without incident. |
