UNION TWP. - An accident involving several vehicles and a tractor-trailer closed the westbound side of Interstate 78 near exit 13 (Route 173) on Thursday evening, according to the state Department of Transportation.
As of 9:30 p.m., all lanes of westbound Interstate 78 were reopened. They had been closed while the accident scene was cleared, resulting in delays of over 45 minutes with traffic stopped for up to six miles.
The accident was reported shortly after 7 p.m. and at least one vehicle overturned. Two other vehicles also appear to have been involved in the accident, according to those on the scene.
On Wednesday, a woman from Palmer Township in Pennsylvania was killed on westbound Interstate 78 in Alpha in Warren County when she drove across several lanes of traffic and was struck by a tractor-trailer. The accident was the 37th since Jan. 1 on the stretch of Interstate 78 from the Pennsylvania border to the Interstate 287 interchange in Somerset County
