CLINTON TWP. — Authorities are investigating a shooting which took place late Friday night at 57 Lilac Drive.
Clinton Township and Clinton Town police, Clinton Rescue Squad and paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center were dispatched to the house around 11:15 p.m. According to emergency radio communications, the medical personnel waited to enter the residence until police secured the scene. The rescue squad requested a medevac helicopter, which landed at nearby Bundt Park.
The victim, a male, was alive and the incident remains under investigation, County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III reported Saturday at mid-morning. Personnel from his office as well as the township police were on the scene most of the night. Kearns said he would be releasing details on the shooting later, including criminal charges that have been filed.
Radio dispatches indicated that the victim suffered a shot wound to the abdomen. The reports also indicated it was an accidental shooting, but Kearns said he could not confirm that yet.
Annandale Fire Department set up a landing zone for the State Police NorthStar Helicopter at Bundt Park on Red Schoolhouse Road. The firefighters had to plow a clearing in the snow-covered parking lot for the helicopter to land.
Clinton Rescue Squad took the victim by ambulance to the landing zone. He was then flown to a hospital trauma center.
