As the 2nd class of EMT students prepares to graduate from our EMS Training Center, this morning they spent some time drilling with members of our and their own agencies in a simulated emergency response. Using volunteer "victims" from around the community, including boy scouts, family members and other squad volunteers, the students were paired with other responders to answer the call for help at a mass casualty incident. Just after 9AM today, the call came across the radios "this is a drill, this is a drill. There is a reported active shooter incident at 48 Old Highway 22. Police report scene is safe to enter, and they have multiple injuries". Our student-run teams went right into deploying the skills they have learned over the past 4 months of classroom. EMT-Student Ben Hagan was appointed as the "Incident Commander" and was paired up with EMT Adam Nordmeyer to manage this incident. He requested 10 additional ambulances, a few Paramedic units, and additional police to help secure the scene. |
After 60 minutes, all patients had been moved to transport off the scene, and a debriefing of all who participated occurred. All in attendance finished up with a grilled lunch served by officers of CFARS.
We would like to congratulate all our students who completed the semester with us, and wish them luck with the course test and their State/National tests coming up around the holidays.
A huge thank you to all that assisted, including members from the Califon First Aid Squad, High Bridge Emergency Squad and Pattenburg Rescue Squad Inc. who all supplied responders and vehicles to work with their students today. Thank you as well to the four past graduates who returned for the morning, EMT Strange from Quakertown Fire Company EMS, EMT Kiefer from @Hampton Emergency Squad, EMT R. Emanuele from Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad and EMT Spear from CFARS. Lastly to the local boy scout troop who joined the Hagan and Harrison families filling out the players in the incident.
Great job by all! Training is a continual process. #CFARSPride #TrainingNeverStops ,
