This performance level (operations) course was designed to prepare emergency responders to perform effectively and safely during bombing incidents, principally in support roles within the warm and cold zones of the incident scene. The course included a familiarization with the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and explosive materials, and detailed training on critical response actions during pre- and post-detonation operations. The course allowed the EMTs to witness firsthand the detonation and effects of IEDs from common pipe bombs up through car bombs. In addition, the course addressed actions that emergency responders could take to prevent and/or deter bombing attacks against targets in their communities.
All costs of this course is covered by a FEMA program available to all CFARS members. The course is generally held bi-weekly throughout the year.
