This evening at just before 5:00pm, the Clinton First Aid & Rescue Squad was dispatched to Round Valley Recreation Area for a reported boater overboard, possibly in need of assistance. Upon arrival of the first due unit, passerby\'s reported a boater who possibly fell overboard. An additional bystander initiated a search of the area, and pointed rescuers to that area. Marine 455-2 deployed and made contact with the witnesses, and began a search. Command was established and announced an active water search and requested additional units, including: Round Valley Recreation Area Lifeguards, NJ State Parks Police, Somerset County Prosecutors' Dive Team, Franklin-Somerset Fire/Rescue Dive Team, Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit, Northstar Medevac for an aerial search and the NJSP T.E.A.M.S. unit. Units searched for approximately 2 hours until severe weather moved into the area and suspended the operation. NJSP TEAMS unit will resume operations at a later time. NJ State Parks Police is handling the investigation. We thank all mutual aid partners for their response to this incident. Responding from CFARS were 18 members, 2 BLS units, 2 boats, Special Services, Heavy Rescue, Rehab and 2 Utility vehicles UPDATE: On Thursday 7/24, Special Services 455 & Marine 455-2 returned to assist the NJSP TEAMS unit in parts of their search. By mid-afternoon, the NJSP Divers had located and recovered the missing kayaker. |
