Private Longo was honored with the presentation of a 4-star Service Flag, a flag hung in honor of our now 4 members currently serving in the armed forces. Along with USMC CPL TJ Cannan, USMC LCPL Matt Wilson, and USMC CPL Kevin Creech, who are also volunteers with our organization out on military leave, Brody has joined the Armed Forces to continue his service to the community, this time to the entire Nation. Private Longo is currently studying to be a 68 Whiskey Healthcare Specialist at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. This flag now proudly hangs above our apparatus bays, inside our community room.
The US Service banner was designed in 1917 by a US Army Captain of the Fifth Ohio Infantry, in honor of his two sons who were serving in World War I. It was quickly adopted by the public and by government officials. In modern uses, an organization, such as ours, may fly a service flag if one of its members is serving active duty. Based on this, we now proudly display a 4-star Blue-Star Service Banner in honor of our members actively serving.
In addition we would like to at this time recognize members Ryan Connors, who is a Cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, John Kowalski who has enlisted in the US Army leaving early January 2015 for boot camp, and Nate Herrington who will be joining the US Navy, scheduled for enlistment in March 2015.
Thank you to each of you, and all our former and current members who have, and continue to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
